Luka Doncic's availability uncertain for Game 2 of NBA Finals against Celtics

Dallas Mavericks fans have received some concerning news about star guard Luca Doncic.

On Sunday, the Slovenian was downgraded to questionable hours before Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics.

According to the team’s injury report, the 25-year-old is now dealing with a thoracic contusion in addition to a right knee sprain and left ankle soreness, which he’s been dealing with for most of the post-season.

Despite being listed as questionable many times during the 2024 playoffs, Doncic has appeared in every game. He leads the league in points (519), rebounds (174), assists (151) and steals (30) in the post-season.

In Game 1, Doncic played 38 minutes and recorded 30 points and 10 rebounds. However, he shot 12-of-26 from the field and notched just one assist.

The Dallas Mavericks are facing uncertainty heading into Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics, as star player Luka Doncic’s availability remains up in the air. Doncic, who has been dealing with a nagging ankle injury, was limited in Game 1 and ultimately sat out the second half as a precaution.

Doncic’s absence would be a significant blow to the Mavericks, as he has been their primary playmaker and leading scorer throughout the playoffs. His ability to create shots for himself and his teammates has been crucial to the team’s success, and his absence would undoubtedly be felt on both ends of the court.

However, Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle remains optimistic about Doncic’s chances of playing in Game 2. “Luka is a tough competitor and he’s been working tirelessly to get back on the court,” Carlisle said in a recent press conference. “We’re hopeful that he’ll be able to suit up and contribute in Game 2, but we’ll have to wait and see how he responds to treatment.”

If Doncic is unable to play, the Mavericks will need other players to step up and fill the void left by their star player. Players like Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Jalen Brunson will need to elevate their games and take on a larger scoring burden in Doncic’s absence.

The Celtics, on the other hand, will look to take advantage of Doncic’s potential absence and capitalize on any weaknesses in the Mavericks’ lineup. With players like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown leading the way, the Celtics will be looking to take a commanding 2-0 series lead with a win in Game 2.

Ultimately, Doncic’s availability for Game 2 remains uncertain, but one thing is for sure – both teams will be ready to compete at the highest level and give it their all in what promises to be an exciting and closely contested matchup. Fans will have to stay tuned for updates on Doncic’s status leading up to tip-off.
