Vancouver Canucks elevate Sedins' coaching roles and promote Svejkovsky

The Vancouver Canucks have enhanced the coaching roles of Daniel and Henrik Sedin and have promoted Yogi Svejkovsky to assistant coach, general manager Patrik Allvin announced Wednesday.

The Sedins will be more involved in the day-to-day coaching activities in both Vancouver and Abbotsford.

“Including the Sedins more in our day-to-day coaching duties will be hugely beneficial to our group both on and off the ice,” Allvin said in a team statement. “Both Daniel and Henrik bring a very unique perspective and competitive mind set to our staff.”

The Canucks will look to leverage the Sedins’ hockey knowledge, with both having played in the NHL for 17 years (2000-2018).

They have been working in player development for Vancouver.

“Daniel and Henrik have also had a seat at the table and I have leaned on them more and more as the year went on,” said head coach Rick Tocchet. “Their knowledge and ability to teach the game is a huge plus and they fit in extremely well with our group.”

Svejkovsky spent the past two seasons with the Canucks as a skills coach, developing players in both Vancouver and Abbotsford.

“After exploring all of our options, it became clear very quickly that the best candidate was already in our organization,” Allvin said of Svejkovsky. “The ability to promote from within will help us in the transition, as Yogi and has a great understanding of our systems and the way we want to play.”

The Vancouver Canucks made some significant changes to their coaching staff recently, elevating former players Henrik and Daniel Sedin to new roles within the organization. The Sedins, who were beloved by fans during their playing days with the Canucks, will now serve as special advisors to the team’s hockey operations department.

This move comes as no surprise to many in the hockey world, as the Sedins have always been seen as natural leaders both on and off the ice. Their work ethic, dedication, and hockey IQ are second to none, and they have a wealth of experience to draw from as they transition into their new roles.

In addition to the Sedins’ new positions, the Canucks also made another significant promotion by naming Arvid Svejkovsky as the team’s new assistant coach. Svejkovsky, who has been with the organization for several years now, has worked his way up through the ranks and has proven himself to be a valuable asset to the coaching staff.

Svejkovsky’s promotion is a testament to the Canucks’ commitment to developing talent from within their own organization. By promoting from within, the team is able to maintain continuity and build on the foundation that has already been laid.

With the Sedins and Svejkovsky now in key coaching roles, the Canucks are poised to continue their upward trajectory and build on the success they have had in recent years. Fans can expect to see a team that is well-coached, disciplined, and hungry for success as they strive to bring a Stanley Cup back to Vancouver.
