Ricky Tiedemann, Blue Jays top prospect, scheduled to throw live batting practice this week

Toronto Blue Jays top prospect Ricky Tiedemann is continuing his build-up towards a return to game action.

According to MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson, the 21-year-old southpaw will throw another live batting practice session this week, aiming to go two innings. Matheson added that if all goes well in that outing, Tiedemann could be back in triple-A Buffalo by the end of the month.

Tiedemann last threw a 20-pitch live batting practice session on Friday.

MLB Pipeline has Tiedemann ranked as the No. 38 prospect in baseball, however, he has dropped since the beginning of the year after being placed on the injured list with ulnar nerve inflammation.

In 2023, Tiedemann threw 62 innings across three minor-league levels and the Arizona Fall League (AFL). He finished the MiLB season with a 3.68 ERA, 82 strikeouts and 23 walks.

At the AFL, he was named the Pitcher of the Year, allowing just five runs over 18 innings of work while racking up 23 strikeouts.

This season, Tiedemann pitched just eight innings in three triple-A starts before going on the injured list. He had a 5.63 ERA with 10 strikeouts and nine walks.

Ricky Tiedemann, a promising young pitcher in the Toronto Blue Jays organization, is set to take a significant step in his development this week as he is scheduled to throw live batting practice. Tiedemann, who is considered one of the top prospects in the Blue Jays’ farm system, has been turning heads with his impressive performance on the mound.

The 22-year-old left-hander has shown great potential since being drafted by the Blue Jays in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft. With a fastball that can reach up to 95 mph and a sharp curveball, Tiedemann has the arsenal to dominate hitters at the next level.

Live batting practice is a crucial part of a pitcher’s development as it allows them to face live hitters and work on their command and pitch sequencing. It also gives coaches and scouts a chance to evaluate the pitcher’s progress and make any necessary adjustments to their mechanics or approach.

For Tiedemann, this session of live batting practice will be an important opportunity to showcase his skills and prove that he is ready to take the next step in his career. If he can impress the coaching staff and continue to refine his pitches, he could be on track to make his major league debut in the near future.

Blue Jays fans are eagerly anticipating Tiedemann’s progression through the minor league ranks and are hopeful that he can become a key contributor to the team’s pitching staff in the years to come. With his talent and work ethic, there is no doubt that Tiedemann has the potential to make a significant impact at the major league level.
