Triple-A Buffalo Bisons catcher Payton Henry has been discharged from hospital following a scary incident on Friday night that resulted in him being carted off the field.
In the bottom of the seventh, Syracuse Mets third baseman Pablo Reyes swung through a first-pitch fastball and hit Henry on the back of his head with the backswing.
According to the Syracuse broadcast on MiLB TV, Henry went down immediately and was visibly shaking in his arm/hand area before medical officials took him off the field and to a Syracuse-area hospital.
In a statement by the Bisons, they said Henry is “doing well as he continues to rest and recover.” Buffalo also thanked its opponent for a swift response and assistance in getting Henry the medical attention he required.
“We want to express our great gratitude to the Syracuse Mets organization and the medical support team at Upstate University Hospital for their assistance and support for Payton in his time of need,” the team said in the statement.
Friday night’s game was cancelled following the incident, and with the Mets leading 4-2, the game will be recorded as completed.
Henry was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as a minor-league free agent in the off-season. The 26-year-old appeared in MLB games with the Miami Marlins in 2021 and 2022.
